First off, all of us at EveryoneOn want to wish you all a very happy new year! In an unusual move, Google weighed in on the net neutrality discussion this week. As followers of the net neutrality debate know, supporters (President Obama included) are urging the FCC to reclassify ISPs as common carriers under Title II. Google noted, however, that were this reclassification to happen, that would mean that Google Fiber would have access to utility poles & other utility infrastructure, which would work to promote competition in the broadband industry. Kim Keenan, president & CEO of Minority Media & Telecommunications Council, argues that Section 706 is actually a better option than Title II reclassification, as it would not only promote net neutrality but also net equality.
