Since the launch of ConnectHome in July, the 28 communities involved in the pilot have been working hard to help end the digital divide. This work, as you may suspect, has come with some challenges.
One of those challenges is the access to low-cost Internet-enabled devices and the upfront costs of some of the Internet offerings.
We have heard this call. And, today, we are launching a national fundraiser with one of our amazing ConnectHome partners, GitHub, to help. But, we need your help, too.
Through this fundraiser, we seek to raise enough funds to subsidize the cost of at least one device and up to 10 months of free service or a mobile hotspot for every family with K-12-aged children living in HUD-assisted housing across the 28 communities selected for this pilot.
Our hope is to raise $2 million through this fundraising campaign in the next three months.
Already, GitHub has committed $250,000 to this device effort and its CEO will be issuing a challenge to Silicon Valley companies to step up and make an investment in ConnectHome. Learn more about what GitHub is doing here.
Here are some examples of what your donation can do:
- $25 eliminates shipping costs for up to 10 families.
- $100 secures one affordable tablet or digital learning device.
- $1,000 provides devices for up to 10 families.
- $10,000 provides devices for up to 100 families.
- $50,000 provides devices for up to 500 families.
