Today, September 13, 2016 is ConnectED Day! Join us as we celebrate the third anniversary of President Obama’s ConnectED initiative!
On ConnectED day, we recognize the progress made to connect students to high-speed broadband and to help educators and leaders build their capacity to transform learning with technology.
At EveryoneOn, we believe that all people living in America should have access to the Internet. We have seen and continue see how our ConnectED work changes the lives of families. Take for example our work in New Jersey. Our regional manager in New Jersey, Kurt, reports about JerseyOn's successful ConnectED efforts in Princeton:
“Princeton's Superintendent Steve Cochrane read about JerseyOn in the Star-Ledger after we had a successful launch in Newark. He contacted me to set up a meeting, and I went to Princeton to discuss the ConnectED initiative with his team. They described how the majority of students come from families that can afford computers and the Internet. The household median income in Princeton is $249,000, but they had 400 students enrolled in the National School Lunch Program and they were concerned that they would be unable to compete with their classmates.
We put together a survey and found out that 200 Princeton students were disconnected. Our initial order was for 80 devices in 2015 and another order of devices came in 2016 for 70 devices. Princeton focused on connecting Middle School and up using funds from the school budget and grant funding. Each year they plan on giving more devices out so ALL the students can be connected.”
We are proud to celebrate this ConnectED day milestone with others committed to this tremendous work. Interested in how others are celebrating?
For example, several Future Ready Coalition Partners are hosting webinar discussions, Twitter chats, or are blogging to celebrate the progress made to connect students to high-speed broadband and to help educators and leaders build their capacity to transform learning with technology.
